Supported NOKIA phones

NOKIA is not very clear on which phones are supported by the library used by NokSync. The official statement from year 2002 is, that series 62xx and 71xx are supported.

If your NOKIA phone can store more than one phone number per contact (such as both a cellular number and a landline number), there is a good chance that NokSync will work with your phone.

Back-up Thunderbird and your phone, and try!

The following NOKIA phone models have been reported to work:

NokSync will not work with Symbian-based NOKIA phones. Please see this announcement.

Whether it works or not, please be so kind as to report your model number and product type on the Open Discussion Forum.

Using NokSync

First of all, you must start NOKIA PC Suite and connect to the phone.

Then you click Tools -> NOKIA Synchronization, and the main window of NokSync comes up. Click Go, and NokSync starts.

(The first time you run NokSync, and the first time only, a disclaimer window will be shown)

(1) Selecting the addressbook(s) to synchronize.

The first time you start NokSync, it will show the preferences window, to let you select the addressbook(s) you want to synchronize.

When you run NokSync again, it will not show the preferences window, but use the addressbook(s) you selected before.

However, you can click preferences to change your selection.

(2) Get addresses from Thunderbird

When you have selected the addressbook(s), NokSync will read them from Thunderbird

(3) Connect to NOKIA Phone

Next, NokSync will try to connect to the NOKIA Phone. You must start NOKIA PC Suite and connect it to the phone first.

(NokSync will wait for some time, so you have a chance to start and connect with NOKIA PC Suite)

Please note, that just because NOKIA PC Suite says that it is connected, this may not actually be the case. If NOKIA PC Suite says it is connected, but NokSync does not connect, try to access the phone with NOKIA PC Suite, e.g. by selecting Contacts and then opening one of the contacts in the browser.

(4) Read contacts from NOKIA Phone

NokSync will now read the contacts from the NOKIA Phone.

(5) Select contacts to synchronize

NokSync will now show a new window, where you can select what and how to synchronize.

On the left you will see a tree, indicating what NokSync will do.
You can click on a contact, to see details in the right side of the window.
You can also right-click on a title or contact, to tell NokSync not to synchronize the contact(s).

When you have selected a contact in the tree on the left, NokSync will show the contact information from Thunderbird and from the phone on the right.

On the bottom you can select

Click OK and NokSync will continue

Notes on how NokSync decides what to synchronize.

Thunderbird remembers the date each contact was modified, but the NOKIA phone does not.

Hence NokSync will do the following:

However, this default choice can be canged by clicking the button below the contact information.

(6) Synchronize Thunderbird and NOKIA Phone.

NokSync will show a prompt, just to give you a last chance to change your mind. Then NokSync will do the actual synchronization.
